JBR's Reno Office Poster Takes First Place in Nevada Geographic Information Society Poster Contest

Competing against both government agencies and private consulting firms, JBR Environmental Consultants, Inc.’s (JBR) Reno Office took first place in the annual Nevada Geographic Information Society (NGIS) Poster Contest, held at the NGIS Conference on May 19, 2009 in Reno, Nevada.

The poster, prepared by members of JBR’s Reno, NV office, featured the Chalk Creek Watershed Characterization Project, which was funded by the Truckee River Fund and administered by the City of Reno. For the poster, JBR team members used ArcGIS with Spatial and 3D Analyst to develop an integrated hydrologic watershed model. The model evaluated the sources of elevated total dissolved solids and nutrient concentrations  in Chalk Creek, a recently developed watershed in Reno. 

“Watershed assessment projects are the perfect type of project to demonstrate JBR’s data management and analysis capabilities’ using GIS. Complex hydrogeologic  projects can be better understood and visualized using 3 dimensional imaging and  sectioning,” said Matt Setty, JBR Senior Project Manager and GIS Supervisor “As JBR’s GIS capacity grows our customers will certainly benefit from enhanced data analysis and spatial data management. We enjoy and look forward to providing these services to existing and future clients.”

Judging criteria for the poster, according to NGIS, were based on the poster’s required purpose:  to display the analytical capabilities of geographic information systems in the most innovative, intriguing, and technically sound use for GIS analysis.
